The Uganda Football Association Federation (FUFA) has proposed a system to combat match-fixing, according to Independent.co.ug. FUFA is going to pay a reward to those who tell about the participants and organizers of the “agreements”.
Ahmed Hussain, head of FUFA communications department, confirmed that FUFA will pay 1 million UGX, which is about $278, for information about the “agreements”.
The FUFA Executive Committee decided to discuss the increase in the number of agreements in Ugandan football after the match between “Tooro United” and “Five Stars FC”, where there was a clear precedent.
As a result of the investigation, three officials were involved in the organization of the match-fixing. Five Stars FC is a former marketing manager, local journalist and sports reporter. They were disqualified for several years. So far, this is an isolated case.
Now it is easier for the football authorities of Uganda to deal with “agreements” because of the sufficient number of people who want to earn extra money. The question is, does the federation have enough money for all the informants?
